🔼 SECU Stadium Turns 75! The inaugural matchup at the University of Maryland’s new football stadium on Sept. 30, 1950, pitted the Terps against the U.S. Naval Academy Midshipmen. But the local rival that made the bigger mark that afternoon was likely Georgetown.

Pranksters broke into the stadium the night before the game and burned the letters “G.U.” into the fresh sod at the 40-yard line. Groundskeepers installed new turf to obscure the damage, although ghostly reminders of the initials remained.

🔼 Afternoon Action. The Big Ten has announced Maryland football’s Oct. 11 home game against Nebraska will kick off at 3:30 p.m. on Big Ten Network!

This game will mark just the second time that the Cornhuskers have traveled to College Park. The teams last met in 2023 in Lincoln and the Terps pulled out a dramatic 13-10 victory.

🔼 Top Terp. Maryland men’s soccer’s Sadam Masereka has been named the Solomon Eye Physicians & Surgeons Terp of the Week!

Masereka scored his team-high fourth goal of the season in the Terps’ 4-1 win over Northwestern. The goal was a dramatic bicycle kick that extended Maryland's lead to 3-1, at the time.

🔼 Changing Lives Through Education. Each year, the College Football Playoff Foundation honors teachers who go above and beyond in their communities with the Extra Yard for Teachers award. 

This year, Mr. Shaun Phillips of Imagine Foundations Morningside Public Charter School in Forestville, Maryland, was nominated for the award by Bianca Benjamin, Maryland’s Coordinator of Business Operations.

“Shaun Phillips is an exceptional math teacher who has been a great influence in our educational community,” Benjamin said, “His unwavering commitment to fostering a love for learning and encouraging students to excel beyond their perceived limitations is truly inspiring.”
