Staying well-hydrated is crucial for optimal athletic performance.
When you become dehydrated, your body’s total blood volume decreases, leading to low blood pressure. This change in blood pressure can cause dizziness, palpitations, fatigue and affect various bodily functions. Mild dehydration can lead to slower reaction times and difficulty focusing, while severe dehydration can cause fainting.
Dehydration also leads to increased water retention in the kidneys and can affect muscle function, leading to symptoms of fatigue and cramping.
It’s important to remember that in addition to water, the body loses electrolytes when sweating, further affecting muscle function.
