Terrapin Brew 5/9: Congrats, Your Honor

Today, the Amazon driver is busy delivering trophies to College Park.

The Official Daily Newsletter For Maryland Athletics

Good morning! This is how much of a buzzsaw the Dirty Terps are right now - needing a win Sunday to continue its ridiculous streak of 20 consecutive Big Ten series wins, they hung 20 runs on the scoreboard.

What all can you find in today's Brew?

🏆 The biggest award
🥍 A little perspective
🐢 And much, much more!

📈 STOCK UP

🔼 Congrats, Your Honor. Diamond Miller and Nick Lorusso have accomplished a lot during their Terp career, but nothing tops this - Miller and Lorusso have been named Maryland’s Big Ten Medal of Honor recipients.

The award is the most exclusive in the Big Ten, and the first of its kind in intercollegiate athletics to recognize academic and athletic excellence. In short, Miller and Lorusso are the definition of student-athletes.

It was certainly a day Lorusso will remember forever - he was also named D1Baseball National Player of the Week on Monday.

🔼 Terps On Top. Two Terps were named the best at their positions by the Big Ten Conference on Monday - Shaylan Ahearn was named the Big Ten Midfielder of the Year, and Emily Sterling joined her as the Big Ten Goaltender of the Year.

Ahearn has been dominant all year, leading the Big Ten with 131 draw controls along with 20 goals, 15 assists, 13 groundballs and eight caused turnovers.

Sterling has posted a .482 save percentage this year, collecting a 50 percent or better save percentage in 10 of 20 games and double-digit saves in six different games.

🔼 Coming Out Hot. Maryland women’s golf is inside the velvet rope through one day at its NCAA Regional in Athens, Georgia, sitting in a tie for fourth place after a 7-over 295 at the University of Georgia Golf Course.

Angela Garvin led the way for the Terps at 1-under, good for a tie for ninth through round one. Garvin was followed by Maria Vittoria Corbi and Nicha Kanpai at 2-over.

Maryland has put itself in a good spot after day one of the tournament. The three-day NCAA Regional concludes with the top-five teams advancing on to the NCAA Championships in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Northeastern holds the triple crown in the Colonial Athletic Association for team batting average (.308), home runs (89) and RBI (360), and the pitching staff has the best team ERA in the conference (3.55).

🔼 Let’s Talk Lax. We’ll dive into the matchups closer to game day (spoiler alert: they should be fun ones), but today we wanted to point out some of the history involved in this year’s NCAA Tournament.

Maryland Men’s Lacrosse vs. Army, May 13

🐢 20 consecutive NCAA appearances (longest streak in NCAA)

🐢 28 NCAA wins since John Tillman took over in 2011 (most in NCAA)

Maryland Women’s Lacrosse vs. Drexel, May 12

🐢 33 consecutive NCAA appearances (longest streak in NCAA)

🐢 Leads NCAA in all-time tournament wins (78), final fours (28), championship game appearances (22) and NCAA titles (14)
