📈 STOCK UP

After giving up one first inning run, the Terps took the lead right back in the bottom half of the inning. Luke Shliger walked and Matt Shaw doubled to start the offense, and Nick Lorusso and Ian Petrutz drove them in with sacrifice flies.

The Terps and Spartans were locked at 2-2 heading into the bottom of the eighth inning, until Shliger stepped into the box and delivered the game-winning RBI double to keep Maryland in the winner’s bracket.

Maryland now awaits the winner of Wednesday’s Nebraska-Rutgers contest, and will play on Thursday at 7:00pm.

🔼 Hoarding Honors. Better start working on that trophy case expansion project, Maryland Athletics - The Dirty Terps just collected quite a haul of Big Ten Postseason awards.

The headliner is Matt Shaw, who was named Big Ten Player of the Year on Tuesday. Shaw hit .361 with 66 RBI and 23 home runs, all while playing stellar defense at shortstop. Rob Vaughn claimed Big Ten Coach of the Year for the second consecutive year for leading the Terps to consecutive Big Ten regular season titles, and an otherworldly 22 straight conference series wins.

Several other Terps earned recognition from the Big Ten - Shaw (SS), Nick Lorusso (3B) and Luke Shliger (C) all earned First-Team nods. Jason Savacool (SP) and Ian Petrutz (DH) took home Second-Team honors, while Elijah Lambros (OF) and Nick Dean (SP) were Third-Team members.

Kyle McCoy (SP) made the All-Freshman team, and Michael Bouma (1B) earned Maryland’s Sportsmanship Award.

🔼 Field Day. Four Maryland track and field athletes are in Jacksonville, Fla., today to compete in the NCAA Track and Field Eastern First Round, with hopes of qualifying for the NCAA Championships in Austin, Texas.

The list of Terps in attendance includes all field athletes - Jayla Bynum (women’s shot put), Jeff Kline (men’s shot put), Kayla Thorpe (women’s javelin) and Kayla Woods (women’s long jump) will represent Maryland at the event.
