🔼 Best Of The Big Ten. Maryland baseball’s 7-4 win over Penn State on Saturday made it official - the Terps are the outright Big Ten champions once again!
Maryland has now won the last two Big Ten regular season titles outright, the first program to do since Indiana in 2013-14.
There was work to do late into the weekend for the Terps to get their most recent title - Maryland and Penn State were locked in a 4-4 tie entering the eighth inning Saturday before Kevin Keister roped the go-ahead RBI single up the middle to give his team the lead, and eventually, the Big Ten crown.
And not to be lost at the bottom of the dogpile - Nick Lorusso became the Big Ten single-season RBI king, driving in a pair of runs Saturday to push his total to 96 runs driven in this year.
Maryland now enters the Big Ten Tournament as the No. 1 seed for the second consecutive year.
🔼 Stymied In Semis. Maryland softball’s season came to an end in the semifinals of the National Invitational Softball Championship, coming just short against Iowa, 4-3.
The Terps were down 4-0 heading into the seventh inning, and almost came all the way back. Trinity Schlotterbeck got the first one back with a sacrifice fly to make it 4-1, Sydney Lewis doubled to make it 4-2, and an errant throw scored Gracelyn Solarz to get Maryland within one. The rally stopped there, though.
Maryland finished its season at 38-19, the most wins for the program since 2011, and made its first postseason appearance since 2012.
🔼 NCAAs Incoming. The Maryland track and field program will send four athletes to the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field East First Round in Jacksonville, Fla., starting on Wednesday.
Kayla Woods (women’s long jump), Jayla Bynum (women’s shot put), Kayla Thorpe (women’s javelin) and Jeff Kline (men’s shot put) have all qualified for the meet.
🔼 Reinforcements Coming. The Maryland women’s soccer roster just got deeper, with head coach Meghan Ryan Nemzer announcing the addition of a pair of ACC transfers.
