Terrapin Brew 4/21: Not Short On Plans
Today, we're scheduling out a busy weekend.
The Official Daily Newsletter For Maryland Athletics
Good morning! Men’s lacrosse hosts Johns Hopkins with a Big Ten title on the line, baseball welcomes Purdue with both teams toward the top of the conference, softball has Penn State in town with just one game separating the two in the standings, and both women’s tennis and field hockey host doubleheaders.
But other than that, not a whole lot going on in College Park this weekend.
What all can you find in today's Brew?
🥍 A lot at stake

🐢 And much, much more!
📈 STOCK UP
🔼 For All The Marbles. The 118th iteration of “The Rivalry” takes place this weekend at SECU Stadium, as No. 7 Johns Hopkins comes to town to take on No. 4 Maryland men’s lacrosse with a Big Ten title up for grabs.
The Terps and Blue Jays are tied atop the Big Ten standings at 3-1, and a win ensures at least a share of the conference crown. Maryland has won five straight in the series, all in the past two seasons.
🔼 Boiling Over. Purdue has the unenviable task of trying to cool off the Dirty Terps this weekend in College Park.
Maryland scored 34 runs in its two midweek games this week, with contributions up and down the lineup. That’s been a consistent theme all year for the Terps, who have scored the most runs in the Big Ten this season.
In short, expect fireworks this weekend.
🔼 Lion Tamers. Maryland softball hosts Penn State this weekend in College Park, both teams jockeying for position in a crowded pack in the middle of the Big Ten standings.
The Terps (6-8 in Big Ten play) are one game ahead of the Nittany Lions (5-9) through 14 conference games.
Runs could be hard to come by this weekend. Maryland is fresh off its 14th shutout of the season against UMBC Wednesday, and Penn State is second in the Big Ten with a 2.30 team ERA.
🔼 Up For Grabs. The stakes couldn’t be any higher this weekend in Evanston, with No. 12 Maryland women’s lacrosse in town to take on No. 2 Northwestern with a Big Ten title on the line.
A win for the Terps (4-1 in the Big Ten) over the Wildcats (5-0) would give them a share of the Big Ten title for the seventh time in eight seasons.
Northwestern has lost just once this year, a one-goal defeat in its first game of the season at No. 5 Syracuse.
🤔 TERPS TRIVIA
Ribeyes. Nick Lorusso is collecting RBIs at a high clip this season.
His 62 runs driven in ranks where among Division-I hitters?

🐢 ONE BIG THING
After standout high school careers in lacrosse and field hockey, Maureen “Bean” Scott Dupcak did the same at Maryland, where she won national titles in both sports - lacrosse in 1992, field hockey in 1993.
