Terrapin Brew 4/20: Can't We Just Get Along?
Today, we're ramping up for The Rivalry.
The Official Daily Newsletter For Maryland Athletics
Good morning! Maryland and Johns Hopkins lacrosse don’t even agree on how many times the two programs have played each other. This rivalry runs really deep…we can’t wait for the 118th meeting this Saturday. Or is it the 125th?
Depends on who you ask.
What all can you find in today's Brew?
⚾️ Runs, runs, runs

🐢 And much, much more!
📈 STOCK UP
🔼 Presidential Sweep. The bats were certainly the story in Maryland baseball’s midweek matchup with James Madison Wednesday, with the Dirty Terps winning the slugfest 19-12 (yes, you read that correctly).
Maryland hit four home runs - two from Elijah Lambros and one each from Ian Petrutz and Eddie Hacopian. Nick Lorusso led in the RBI department with six driven in, Lambros right behind him with five.
The Dirty Terps scored 34 runs in their two midweek games this week, and welcome the Purdue pitching staff into town this weekend.
🔼 History Is Made. Maryland softball beat UMBC on Wednesday 9-0, earning its 30th win of the season - its most in one season since joining the Big Ten.
Courtney Wyche tossed the first four scoreless innings for the Terps, striking out four. Trinity Schlotterbeck handled the final three outs, striking out two.
Schlotterbeck also put the cherry on top of the win in the batter’s box - a three-run blast in the second inning that pushed the score to 9-0.
🔼 Putt And A Prayer. Fox Chapel Golf Club in Pittsburgh is the site for the Big Ten Women’s Golf Championship, starting Friday morning.
The Terps come into the tournament playing well, finishing fourth out of 13 teams at the Lady Buckeye Invitational last weekend. Patricie Mackova tied for first at that event, and has all the momentum necessary to make a run at an individual title.
The Big Ten Championships were held at Fox Chapel last year too, with Maryland finishing sixth as a team. Mackova finished in a six-way tie for sixth at 2-over.
🔼 Split Squads. Maryland track and field is out on the road again this weekend, taking trips to both the Virginia Challenge and Hopkins/Loyola Invitational.
The Terps are closing in on the stretch run of the outdoor season - the Penn Relays are next week, followed by the Kehoe Twilight Meet and Big Ten Outdoor Championships.
🤔 TERPS TRIVIA
A Long, Long History. Maryland men’s lacrosse has played rival Johns Hopkins a lot. Like, 100 years.
The Terps have had the Blue Jays’ number lately. Do you know how long their current win streak in the series is?

🐢 ONE BIG THING
Patricie Mackova has partnered with a company called EcoAthletes as a Champion, a group that identifies athletes, scientists, climate scientists, business leaders, and eco-entrepreneurs to come together to combat the climate crisis, hopefully leading to action worldwide.

🎉 TRIVIA ANSWER
Answer: Five games!
The five consecutive wins is Maryland’s longest streak in series history. The Terps beat Johns Hopkins three times in 2021, including in the Big Ten Championship, and twice in 2022.
Have a great Thursday, everyone.
