With great sadness, the University of Maryland mourns the loss of an icon, as it was announced that Charles “Lefty” Driesell passed away on Saturday morning at the age of 92.

Driesell was a legend in the sport who left an indelible mark on Maryland basketball and the college basketball community as a whole.

📈 STOCK UP

🔼 For The Seniors. Maryland women’s basketball celebrated its seniors in style, beating Penn State 77-62 at the XFINITY Center while holding the Lady Lions to a season-low in points.

Jakia Brown-Turner, one of the seniors honored, scored a career-high 32 points in the win.

🔼 With Heavy Hearts. Maryland and No. 14 Illinois men’s basketball were neck-and-neck for all 40 minutes on Saturday, with the Illini edging the Terps, 85-80.

The day was full of emotion with Maryland fans joining in a moment of silence during pregame to honor Hall of Fame coach Lefty Driesell, and the Terps wore their throwback uniforms that commemorated the teams Driesell coached in the 1980s.

🔼 Walk-Off Winners. We were seeing double up in New York this weekend — both of the top-10 Maryland men’s and women’s lacrosse teams scored game-winning goals in overtime against top-5 Syracuse teams!

🔼 Coming Home Ahead. Maryland baseball traveled to Statesboro, Ga. this weekend and took two-of-three from an always-tough Georgia Southern team.

Jacob Orr and Eddie Hacopian both hit .400 on the weekend, and scored seven runs between the two of them.

🔼 Lions In Louisiana. Maryland softball took down Southeast Missouri in its first game of the Lion Classic in Hammond, La. this past weekend before dropping its next four games to finish the weekend 1-4.

🔼 Prepped For The Postseason. Maryland track and field finished up its regular season at the Navy Select over the weekend, which means it’s officially Big Ten Indoor Championships week!

🔼 B1G Finish. Maryland 285-pounder Seth Nevills picked up a huge top-10 in Maryland wrestling’s dual against No. 14 Rutgers on Friday, but the Terps fell to the Scarlet Knights, 27-12.

Ethen Miller (149 pounds) and Jaxon Smith (197) also picked up wins for Maryland, which will finish up its regular season dual schedule against Drexel on Friday.

🔼 Ranked Showdown. No. 25 Maryland gymnastics went on the road yesterday and fell at No. 10 Michigan State, 197.550 - 195.525.

The Terps performed well, particularly on bars and floor, where they had their best performances of the year with scores of 49.075 on each.
