🔼 Next Up. Maryland football welcomed in the next wave of Terps during yesterday’s National Signing Day, with 20 high school seniors signing to play in College Park!

🔼 Fast & Furious. Maryland men’s basketball couldn’t have scripted a better start to Big Ten play, beating Ohio State, 83-59, at XFINITY Center on Wednesday!

The Terps led 50-17 at halftime, setting multiple records in the process. The 50 total points were the most in a Big Ten regular season game in program history, and the +33 margin was Maryland’s largest ever in a Big Ten game.

Ja’Kobi Gillespie led the Terps with 23 points, followed by Derik Queen (17 points, 11 rebounds), Tafara Gapare (12 points), Julian Reese (10 points) and Selton Miguel (10 points).

🔼 Postseason Praise. After a season in which she led the nation in service aces, Maryland volleyball’s Samantha Schnitta has been named to the All-Big Ten Second Team!

Schnitta set career-bests in nearly every statistical category this season, including kills (368), assists (34), aces (88) and total blocks (61). In her final weekend of collegiate volleyball, Schnitta entered the 1,000 career kill club.

Ellie Watson was also recognized, earning the team’s Sportsmanship award.

🐢 ONE BIG THING

🔼 Feeding The Soul. Steve Schanwald has his reasons.

The 1977 graduate of the University of Maryland donated $10 million to Maryland’s athletic department — part of an $18 million gift to the University of Maryland that also supports the Sports Management Program at the Robert H. Smith School of Business.

The gift, announced on Dec. 3, was the third largest received by the department in its history. Schanwald sought to pay homage to the university that launched his career and to the students, now and yet to come, who represent the future of the University of Maryland and society as a whole.

This season, Abbott and the Big Ten are pitting school against school in the largest blood donation competition of our lifetime to fight the largest blood shortage in a generation. The winning school will receive $1 million to advance student or community health. Individual donors will be offered a free one-month subscription to B1G+ and will be entered to win a trip to the 2024 Discover® Big Ten Football Championship Game on December 7, 2024.
