Good morning! If you look up into the sky this morning, you might be able to see Matt Shaw's Friday grand slam soaring through the Maryland clouds.
Rumor has it, the ball still hasn't landed (although officially, it was measured at 507 feet).

🔼 Zero. Zip. Zilch. Maryland softball made history this weekend, sweeping Michigan State by way of three straight shutouts - the first time that has happened in school history.
Courtney Wyche threw her second complete-game shutout of the year in game one, a 3-0 Terps win. All the offense came on one swing, a bases clearing triple from Michaela Jones in the first inning.
The bats exploded in game two, a 11-0 win over the Spartans. The Terps scored three in the first, five in the second, and three more in the third to put the game way out of reach. Trinity Schlotterbeck shut things down in the circle, tossing her third shutout on the year.
Game three was over early, as a four-run second inning put it away. Wyche was on the mound for the Terps again, and again threw a shutout. Schlotterbeck and Campbell Kline both had multi-RBI games.
🔼 No Fly Zone. The Dirty Terps grounded the Hawkeyes over the weekend, winning its opening Big Ten series on the road.
The first two wins in the series came in the comeback variety. Iowa jumped out to a 5-0 lead in game one on Friday, just to have Maryland storm back and win by a 10-9 final. The man leading the charge in that one? You guessed it - Matt Shaw, who hit two home runs, including a go-ahead grand slam.
In game two, Maryland scored four runs in the final two innings to win 7-4. Nick Lorusso tied the game in the eighth with a bases loaded walk, and Shaw did the rest - a two-run, game-winning single to give the Terps the lead.
Game three turned into a shootout, with the Terps on the wrong end of a 12-8 final score. Luke Shliger hit a leadoff home run for the second day in a row in the contest.
🔼 Record Breakers. The 2023 Maryland gymnastics team stands alone in school history, setting a program record 196.675 in its NCAA Regional, finishing fourth at the event.
The Terps posted the highest NCAA Regional score in team history on bars, with a 49.275. Aleka Tsiknias and Sierra Kondo both scored 9.875 in the event.
A few more standouts from the event: Josephine Kogler on the beam (9.900), Emma Silberman on the floor (9.900), and Alexsis Rubio on vault (9.825).
🔼 Fourth Quarter Flourish. Five consecutive fourth quarter goals allowed Maryland women's lacrosse to pull away from Michigan, and ended up winning 13-7.
Libby May scored five goals for the Terps, while Chrissy Thomas scored twice and dished out a pair of assists.
On a day in which the program was celebrating its 50th season, the Terps moved to 10-3 overall and 2-0 in the Big Ten.
🤔 TERPS TRIVIA
Those poor records. This past weekend saw many Maryland athletics records fall… softball is off to its best start ever, gymnastics rewrote its history books, and Kayla Thorpe set the women's track & field record in the javelin.
The lead-in was long but the trivia question is simple: how far did Thorpe toss the javelin in her record-breaking throw over the weekend?

🐢 ONE BIG THING
Maryland men's lacrosse is embracing the changing landscape in college sports through its partnership with The Hard Shell Collective, a third-party organization that works with student athletes to provide fans and supporters access to their favorite players through contributions and subscriptions.
The partnership has far-reaching benefits… young lacrosse fans get greater access to their idols at Maryland, while the student-athletes receive some financial benefits for themselves and their families.
